Our aim is to help you become aware of how your body moves and feels in order to optimise performance, manage pain & support long term health. We provide the highest quality exercise physiology services, including Pilates at our Wollongong clinic.

Originally developed in the 1920s by physical trainer Joseph Pilates, the Pilates method focuses on balanced development through core strength, flexibility and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement. It can be used for rehabilitation from injury, general fitness, prenatal exercise, or for elite sportspeople looking to fine-tune their bodies.

Clinical Pilates is a highly specific form of the exercise, which integrates the Pilates Method with latest research into the management of musculoskeletal dysfunction. It can be taught in a variety of settings, such as private studios, physiotherapy practices and community facilities. Unlike other forms of Pilates, which are typically group classes, Clinical Pilates is individually tailored to each client. It involves a detailed assessment and prescription of exercises to suit your needs, which are then regularly re-evaluated to ensure they continue to be safe for you.

A physiotherapist will perform a comprehensive evaluation and then prescribe a specific program of exercises for you to do at home. This will include correcting any postural or movement patterns that may be contributing to your pain or limiting your range of motion. Then, your physiotherapist will teach you how to do the exercises correctly and help you monitor your progress over time. This process is key to getting you back on track as quickly as possible, and reducing the chance of any re-aggravation of your injury.

Our Pilates instructors are highly experienced in the training of all levels of participants, from beginners to advanced athletes and fitness professionals. They are also qualified Exercise Physiologists and have completed further postgraduate training in the delivery of Clinical Pilates.

We offer a wide range of different classes, depending on your level of experience and fitness goals. These include Beginners, Matwork small equipment and Pilates Reformer. Our Pilates reformer is a machine that builds strength efficiently and helps you to find your movement by using inbuilt weight loaded springs. It is the most popular piece of Pilates equipment and is ideal for building functional strength in a non-weight bearing way.

Our small equipment classes are a little more challenging than the matwork sessions and will often incorporate the use of rollers, medicine ball, Magic Circle, chii balls and theraband. This is a great class to build your confidence on the machines and also get a really fun, full body workout! We also run specialised ‘Mums with Bubs’ and “Pause” classes for women going through peri- and menopause. These classes are a fantastic way to get back into the gym safely while supporting your body through these unique changes. pilates wollongong
